The Society of Colonial Wars in the State of New York has established the Gordon Cumnock Wilcox Scholarship, available to sons of members of the Society, for undergraduate university education.
The scholarship is made possible by a generous bequest from Mr. Wilcox, who was a long-time member of the New York Society.
The award provides funds for up to all four years of college education, and may be used for tuition, room and board, and associated educational expenses.
Awards are granted in amounts up to a maximum total of $80,000 per awardee, payable in equal installments of up to a maximum of $20,000 at the beginning of each of the student’s four years of college, conditioned on continued attendance. By the terms of Mr. Wilcox’s request, the award is granted “based more on character than on academic achievement”.
Sons of members request an application by emailing the office here: office@colonialwarsny.org
Applications for entering Fall freshman are due April 15. A Society member who has a son who might be eligible for the award, but who is not going to enter college until the next Fall semester should advise the Society in a brief note of his son‘s intention to apply the following year.
